I’m Georgie
I’m Georgie Landy (LCAT, ATR-BC,), a licensed and board-certified psychotherapist and creative arts therapist with a master’s degree in art therapy from New York University.
I help my clients gain insight by understanding the "why" behind their behaviors and access tools they can use outside of the therapy session to move forward. My experience supporting those affected by trauma, grief, and mental illness shapes my compassionate and intuitive approach.
For those who struggle to express what they’re feeling through words, we may incorporate creative processes like drawing, painting, or storytelling to help make sense of what’s going on internally. I work with individuals of all ages, couples, and families to express and reconnect with themselves and others through creativity. As a practicing artist, I believe in the transformative power of art and invite clients to explore their challenges through both verbal and visual dialogue.
I work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, including adults, children, adolescents, and couples. I have worked with a variety of populations including young men impacted by addiction and incarceration, survivors of sexual abuse, in-patient psychiatric patients, and individuals struggling with OCD, depression and sex and love addiction. I am affiliated with New York City hospitals including Elmhurst, Maimonides, and Bellevue.
I am a faculty member at the Drama Therapy Institute of Los Angeles where I teach courses on affirming art therapy for LGBTQIA+ individuals and provide continuing education on art therapy in clinical spaces at the Cognitive Behavior Associates in Beverly Hills. I have practiced psychotherapy in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, school-based practices, treatment facilities, and private practice.
I present at local and global conferences on applied psychotherapy and expressive arts therapy including the European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, New York University School of Social Work, Shanghai Theater Academy, and the Ghana International School.
My Approach
Therapy can create the space for the shifts we need to step into a life where we truly thrive. Growing up in a household that celebrated creative self expression and emotional exploration, I witnessed firsthand how my own father’s teaching, research, and clinical practice demonstrated the power of the arts as a means to heal.
My father, Dr. Robert Landy, PhD, RDT-BCT, LCAT, has been a profound influence on my career as an art therapist. As the founding Emeritus Professor of the NYU Program in Drama Therapy and a pioneer in the field for nearly four decades, his groundbreaking work has shaped how drama therapy is practiced worldwide. His work reshaped how creativity can be used to improve the lives of children and adults everywhere.
Role and identity are essential to my approach. As a fine artist myself, I believe in the power of the arts as a catalyst for positive change. Through the therapeutic relationship, I seek to ignite the multifaceted roles and identities of each of my clients, nurturing their strengths and passions. That’s why I offer a playful, spontaneous approach, infused with curiosity and imagination to foster resilience, connection and confidence.
My background as an actor also deeply informs my work as an arts therapist. Acting taught me how to access a wide range of feelings while regulating them, and I bring that understanding into therapy to support clients in discovering healthy ways to recognize, process, and express their own emotional experiences. Through drama therapy techniques such as role play, narradrama, and embodiment exercises, I help clients explore and express emotions in a safe and contained way.
Supervision & Consulting
In addition to my private psychotherapy practice, I work as a clinical supervisor, a senior therapist at Harris and Long Psychotherapy and a consultant with educational institutions looking to integrate therapeutic modalities into their infrastructure.
FAQ
-
Creative arts therapy uses art, drama, and other creative processes as tools for self-expression, reflection, and healing. You don’t need to be an artist to benefit—this is not about making “good” art, but about using the creative process to access thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may be difficult to put into words. In our sessions, I guide you through expressive exercises that help illuminate patterns, release emotions, and build new ways of coping. The creative process becomes both a mirror and a pathway to deeper self-understanding.

Couples therapy can be helpful whether you’re in crisis or simply want to strengthen your relationship. It’s not only for couples on the verge of separation. If you and your partner are facing challenges with communication, intimacy, trust, or navigating life transitions, therapy provides a safe and structured space to address those issues. My role is to help both of you feel heard, identify unhelpful patterns, and build healthier ways of relating so that your relationship can grow in resilience and connection.

The term therapist is often used broadly, but as a licensed psychotherapist, I have extensive training in psychology, mental health, and evidence-based treatment approaches. This means I’m not only offering supportive listening but also drawing from clinical knowledge and therapeutic techniques to guide the process. With my specialization in creative arts therapy, I integrate both traditional psychotherapy and expressive methods, allowing for a deeper, more dynamic approach to healing that honors both mind and body.
